Ten steps
to help you find the right applicant for your job
- A good headline, strong index words
This should be the title of the vacancy, or an sttention compeller
which will make the vacancy stand out from the rest.
- Salary, rate of pay
Probably the main motivating factor. If it's high, potential applicants
may compare it favourably to their own salary. If it's low, you
should still include it as it saves time wasting. Always state
how the salary is made up, i.e. basic, basic plus commission or
commission only.
- Job description
Clearly describe what the the job is and give examples of duties
involved.
- Qualifications, experience
If they are required, state them. There is no point being swamped
with unsuitable applicants.
- Location
Specify city centre or suburban location. If a vacancy is local
to someone it cuts their travelling time and costs. If it's city
centre, there will be convenient, regular transport available.
- Hours
Is it full or part time? What are the hours? Are the hours fixed
or flex-time?
- Training, promotional prospects
Introductory training is a big attraction, changing jobs can be
stressful and comprehensive induction training can help to allay
any fears.
- Fringe benefits
Don't forget to mention such things as pension schemes, car, luncheon
vouchers, sports facilities, uniforms, bonus, travel expenses,
staff canteen, creche facilities, profit share etc.
- Contact details
State full name, address and telephone number. Including contact
name, this gives a personal touch. Specify times to call and closing
dates. Also should previous applicants apply again.
- And finally
Ensure your advertisement appears in the Coventry Evening Telegraph.
